How to Create a Product Label: Step-by-Step Guide for Small Businesses

A good label makes a home-made product look like a brand and tells the buyer what they are getting. Here is a simple step-by-step guide to creating a product label for food, crafts, resin art, soaps or any small business in Tamil Nadu, with what to write, how big to make it and which material to choose.
Step 1: Decide where the product will be kept
This decides the material. A podi or powder pack that stays dry can use a normal paper label. A bottle that goes in the fridge, ice or a cold drink needs a waterproof PVC label, because paper lifts and soaks. Resin art photos need a waterproof, long-lasting synthetic print.

Step 2: Write what must be on the label
Keep it short and readable. A typical label shows the brand name or logo, the product name, the net weight or quantity, the price (MRP), the ingredients if it is food, the packing and best-before dates, how to store it, and your phone or WhatsApp number and address so customers can reorder.

Food sellers in India should also check the current FSSAI rules for the details and registration number that must appear on their label. Packaged goods have legal-metrology rules too. If you are unsure, ask your local FSSAI office or an accountant before you print a large quantity.
Step 3: Choose the size and shape
Measure the front of your bottle, box or pouch and leave a small margin. Round labels suit jars and lids, rectangles suit bottles and boxes. We can also cut the sticker in a round shape or along the outline of your own logo (see our shape-cut guide below).
Step 4: Design it so it can be read
Use strong contrast, such as dark text on a light background. Make the product name the biggest text, keep the small print at a readable size, and do not use more than two or three fonts. Put your logo in one corner. Add a QR code that opens your WhatsApp or Instagram if you want repeat orders.
Step 5: Check a proof before the full print
Send us your text, logo and size on WhatsApp. If you do not have a design, send what you want written and a reference photo. We prepare a preview for you to approve, so spelling, weight and phone number can be corrected before the full print.
Step 6: Print, stick and test
Print a small quantity first, stick one on the real product and keep it in real conditions (fridge, bag, shelf) for a few days. If it holds, order the larger quantity. The price depends on the item, size, material and quantity, so we quote on WhatsApp for your exact requirement.
